Marking 10 Years with 10 Causes that Make a Difference

Last year, Floura Teeter Landscape Architects (FTLA) decided to commemorate its 10^th anniversary in an unusual way: by launching an initiative designed to give back to the community that helped make us a leading area landscape architecture firm.

In March of 2010, we officially launched our 10 Years / 10 Causes campaign, pledging a minimum of ten hours of support or a comparable monetary contribution to ten different Baltimore-area non-profits with the purpose to grow stronger, more connected communities.

Sparked by the co-incidence of our 10^th anniversary occurring in 2010, we carried the “10” theme throughout, from the title of the initiative to the date of the culminating event which was held on October 4, 2010  – 10-4(for)-10 – symbolizing 10 causes for 10 years.

FTLA identified nine worthy causes upfront but allowed clients, colleagues, vendors and friends to vote online for the tenth “People’s Choice” recipient as a way of further engaging the community. The selected causes were:

  • Federal Hill Preparatory School Reading Garden **People’s Choice (October)
  • Habitat for Humanity (November)
  • Lurman Arboretum (December)

On October 4, 2010 FTLA showcased the causes it supported in a Big Ten Event held at our Franklin Street offices and attended by more than 70 prominent Baltimore business community leaders. The event offered guests the opportunity to watch a slideshow featuring background on each of the non-profits as well as a chance to speak directly with representatives from each group. In addition to the celebration, FTLA found yet another way to give back to one of the causes. Throughout the evening guests purchased raffle tickets and the winner of the raffle chose the cause (GEDCO/Cares Pantry) that would receive all cash proceeds raised.
